Drain Cleaners & Augers

JQ-021 5 mm Pull-Through Drain Auger (0.9 m)

5 mm pull-through drain auger, 0.9 m, with a grip at both ends for tight bends and restricted access. 0.1 kg. OEM packaging and paid samples available.

What the JQ-021 is

The JQ-021 is a pull-through drain auger: one length of spring cable with a grip at each end, so it can be worked from either side of a blockage. The catalogue describes the same job as the rest of the small-tool range — hair, vegetable dregs, food residue, mud and other soft material out of a short trap run — but the double-ended construction is what makes this item worth stocking separately from a single-grip auger.
It is a 5 mm cable at 0.9 m, which puts it at the smallest end of our drain cleaning programme. That size exists for one reason: a 5 mm spring will follow a tight bend in a 32 mm waste pipe that a stiffer 6 mm cable will refuse. If a customer's drain is behind a shallow trap or a tight elbow, this is the tool that gets round the corner without being forced.

Why having a grip at both ends changes the job

On a single-grip auger the user pushes and turns from one end. On the JQ-021 they can hold one grip and turn the other, which turns the cable into a two-handed tool: one hand feeds, the other rotates. In practice that means more control at the point where a small cable usually fails, which is the moment it meets resistance and the user's instinct is to push harder.
The second advantage is access. A trap under a bath, a basin waste behind a pedestal, a sink in a tight corner — these are places where there is no room to swing a handle through a full rotation. With a grip at each end the tool can be worked in short arcs from whichever side the plumber can actually reach.
Neither of those is a marketing claim; they are the reason the pattern exists in the trade. What we will not claim is that it replaces a drum machine. It does not, and a buyer who positions it that way will get returns.

Where a 5 mm pull-through auger fits in an assortment

Five items in our range are hand tools under 7 mm, and the differences are the working end and the packaging rather than the cable quality. This is how they divide:
Item
Cable
Working end
Best for
JQ-021
5 mm, 0.9 m
Corkscrew, grip at both ends
Tight bends, restricted access
JQ-014
6 mm, 0.9 / 1.8 m
Corkscrew, single grip
Standard trap runs, longer reach
JQ-015
5 mm, 0.8 / 3 m
Brush head
Scrubbing a cleared pipe wall
JQ-020
5 / 6 mm, 5–15 m
Corkscrew, blister card
Retail pegboard, longer runs
JQ-022
Bare cable, no grip
None
Trade consumable, replacement
Read down that table and the stocking logic is obvious: JQ-021 is the tight-access tool, JQ-014 is the general-purpose one, JQ-015 cleans after the fact rather than clearing, and JQ-020 is the retail-packaged version for a longer run. A merchant who carries only one of them will send customers away for the other three.

What it will not do

A 5 mm cable at 0.9 m reaches the trap and roughly the first metre behind it. It will not clear a main stack, a long horizontal branch, a root intrusion, a grease-loaded commercial line, or a toilet pan. Pushing it further than it wants to go is how the spring kinks, and a kinked spring has no second life.
For those jobs the correct tools are further up the range: the JQ-009 drum auger range for 7–10 mm cable up to 10 m, the JQ-002A and JQ-002B hand drum augers where a closed drum suits the user, or the JQ-025 drain rod set at 9 m where length matters more than flexibility. For a toilet, the JQ-006 toilet auger with vinyl guard is the only correct answer, because the guard is what protects the porcelain.
Cable sizes across the whole programme, including the drum units, are set side by side in our drain auger cable size chart.

Packing, private label and mixed orders

Carton quantity, minimum order per item number and mixed-container ratios are quoted per enquiry, because they move with material costs and container rates and a printed figure goes stale. What the catalogue does state is the shipping weight: 0.1 kg per unit before packaging. The item coils and packs flat, so it mixes easily with longer cables in the same carton.
For private label, the questions worth asking us are about presentation: bag, printed carton or hanging card; printed barcode or applied label; which language panel can change per market. Where a detail needs a physical sample before you commit, we will say so rather than confirm it in an email, and paid samples are the normal route for any packaging change.
If you are building the household maintenance side of an assortment rather than the trade side, the JQ-027A and JQ-027B pump drain plungers cover the blockage type that does not need a cable at all. The whole category is indexed from our drain augers hub, and planning a drain auger range for wholesale buyers sets out how the items fit together commercially.

Frequently asked questions

Can the JQ-021 be used from either end?

Yes. That is the whole point of the pattern: both ends carry a grip, so the tool can be fed and rotated from whichever side the user can reach, which is often the difference between clearing a trap under a bath and giving up on it.

Is 5 mm too thin for a kitchen sink?

For a normal 40 mm waste pipe with a soft blockage, 5 mm is fine, and being thinner helps it follow the bend. For a grease-loaded line the limitation is not the diameter but the material: grease re-coagulates, and no cable of any size removes it. Say so at the counter rather than selling a tool that will disappoint.

What is the difference between JQ-021 and JQ-014?

JQ-021 is 5 mm and 0.9 m with a grip at both ends, aimed at tight bends and restricted access. JQ-014 is 6 mm in 0.9 m or 1.8 m with a single grip, aimed at standard trap runs and longer reach.

Does it come as a blister card for retail?

The JQ-021 is a bagged trade item. If you need a hanging card for a retail pegboard, the blister-packed range is the JQ-020, which is offered in 5 mm and 6 mm at 5, 10 and 15 m.

Is spare cable available?

Not as a separate part for this item; the cable is fixed into the grips. If replaceable cable matters to your market, buy the drum units and stock spares from our drain auger spare cables range.

What do I need to send you for a quotation?

Item numbers and quantities, the packaging you want (bag, printed carton or card), the market you are selling into, and whether you need private label. With those four things we can quote in one round. Write to amy@longrunhardware.com, alisa@longrunhardware.com or akira@longrunhardware.com, or message WhatsApp +86 158 6745 7689. Paid samples are available before a production order.
