The range in one table

JQ-009 is the widest hand auger series we make: thirteen variants, four cable diameters and four lengths. The table below is the full item list because buyers order against the item number, not the range name.

Add the suffix for the version

The item numbers above are written with the suffix removed. The three versions in production are JQ-009A, JQ-009B and JQ-009C, so the 9 mm 5 m item is JQ-009A-9, JQ-009B-9 or JQ-009C-9 depending on which version is ordered.

What actually differs between A, B and C

The specification tables are identical across the three. The difference is the handle and cable-end finish, which makes it a channel and packaging decision rather than a performance one. Confirm the version against the product photo before the order is placed.

Why 7 mm exists at all

7 mm is the cable for a 32 mm to 40 mm waste pipe. It goes round a bend that a 9 mm cable will not, and it is the size that clears a basin or a bath without damaging the trap.

Why 10 mm is the top of the range and not the default

10 mm carries real torque and clears a 100 mm branch, but at 3.1 kg on the 10 m version it is a two-handed tool and it will not follow a tight bend. Most trade calls want 8 mm or 9 mm.

Five, seven or ten metres

Length is the specification buyers get wrong most often, because a blocked drain gives no clue how far the restriction is.

3 m and 5 m cover the fixture

Basins, baths, sinks and urinals are all inside 5 m. These are the volume items on any distributor's shelf.

7 m is the awkward one

It exists because 10 m 9 mm weighs 2.3 kg and 5 m sometimes does not reach. 7 m at 1.61 kg is the compromise, and it is worth stocking for the installer who works alone.

10 m needs a reason

A 10 m run means a long horizontal branch or a stack connection. Where that is the job, 10 m is the only length that works, and the weight is accepted.

Weight translates straight into freight

The range spans 0.45 kg to 3.1 kg. Carton data has to be quoted per item, and a mixed pallet has to be planned rather than assumed.

Matching the cable to the pipe

32 mm to 40 mm waste

7 mm cable. A larger cable will not negotiate the trap, and forcing it is how a trap arm gets broken.

50 mm waste and branch

8 mm or 9 mm. This is the bulk of commercial and residential drainage work.

75 mm to 100 mm branch

10 mm cable, and only where the run is reasonably straight. Beyond that a drum machine is the correct tool.

Never in a toilet pan

Cable on a bare auger can mark the ceramic. A toilet needs a guarded toilet auger, and the note appears on the drawings for our own small augers for the same reason.

How the tool is specified for a drill

The 2.0 mm line is the drill option

The 10 mm items are listed with a 1.7 mm or a 2.0 mm line and a weight for each. The 2.0 mm line is the one to quote where the customer intends to drive the auger from a drill.

Drill torque has to be limited

A drill on full torque will wind a cable into a knot before the clutch slips. Low clutch, slow speed, and the operator holding the cable straight.

Hand turning is still the default

Most of this range is turned by hand. The drill option exists for the long runs, not as the normal way to use the tool.

Where the JQ-009 range is the wrong tool

Saying this plainly is what keeps a distributor's account alive.

A toilet

Wrong tool, and the wrong cable will mark the pan. A guarded toilet auger is the answer.

Roots in a main line

A hand auger does not cut roots. That is a machine with a cutting head.

A collapsed or offset pipe

If the cable stops at the same distance twice, the pipe is damaged. A camera survey is the next step, and the 9 m drain rod set gives a different feel in the same situation without solving it.

A short domestic call

Where 5 m of 5 mm cable is enough, the JQ-010A and JQ-010B are lighter and cheaper. Recommending a 9 mm 10 m tool for a basin wastes the customer's money.

Questions buyers ask about the JQ-009 series

How many items are in the range?

Thirteen variants in each of three versions, so thirty-nine item numbers in total across 7 mm, 8 mm, 9 mm and 10 mm cable.

What is the difference between A, B and C?

Handle and cable-end finish only. The specification tables are identical, so the choice is a channel and packaging decision.

Which item sells most?

The 8 mm and 9 mm items in 5 m and 7 m. Those cover the 50 mm waste work that makes up most of the trade volume.

Can the cable be replaced?

Yes. Cable is the wearing part and is supplied separately through the spare cable range.

Will it fit the JQ tips in your chart?

Heads fit a specific cable end, so confirm the shank against the version you stock. The twelve head options are set out in the drain auger tip guide.

What packaging can be customised?

Sleeve, carton artwork and handle marking are quoted against the configuration. Artwork approval sits inside the lead time.

Send the item numbers, quantities, packing and destination and we will return carton data and a quotation. Email amy@longrunhardware.com, alisa@longrunhardware.com or akira@longrunhardware.com, or message us on WhatsApp at +86 158 6745 7689. Product Manager Alisa Xu handles this range. Start from the drain auger range, or go to the JQ-003 manual and drill-powered auger, the JQ-004 hand-turn auger, the manual drum auger and the 9 m drain rod set. Cable sizing is set out in the cable size chart, tool choice in the drum auger versus drain snake guide and the manual versus drill-powered guide, and the same range is listed for the trade on our Longrun drain augers page.
