Above 4 inches, tube cutting stops being a hand tool category and starts being a site problem. The pipe is heavy, the cut has to be square because it is going into a mechanical joint or a fusion socket, and there is no bench to clamp it to. The 168 mm tubing cutter is the tool that closes that gap: a hand-operated wheel cutter sized for 100 to 168 mm pipe, in an aluminium alloy body light enough to carry up a scaffold and heavy enough not to flex under load.

At a glance

  • Cutting range 100 to 168 mm, or 4 in to 6-5/8 in
  • Cuts copper tube, aluminium tube and plastic pipe
  • Aluminium alloy body, 2.23 kg net weight
  • Wide wheel and roller set keeps the cut tracking square on large diameter
  • Shipped in bulk master cartons, which is how this size is normally ordered

Why large-diameter cutting is a different problem

A 15 mm cutter and a 168 mm cutter are the same idea and not the same tool. On small tube the wheel is in contact with a short arc and the cut closes behind the wheel almost immediately; the operator feels the tool bite and the cut stays on line. On a 168 mm pipe the contact arc is long, the tube wall is thin relative to the diameter, and any misalignment at the start is amplified over the whole circumference. That is why large cutters carry a wider roller set and a heavier frame: the frame is not there to look robust, it is there to hold the wheel square while the tool travels around the pipe.
The second difference is weight. A 2.23 kg tool hanging on a pipe is a different ergonomic proposition from a 300 g one, which is why this size is usually used with the pipe supported and the tool rotated, rather than the pipe rotated under a fixed tool.

Where this size is specified

  • Chiller and rack piping — large copper headers cut on site to fit a plant room.
  • Irrigation and drainage mains — plastic pipe in the 110 to 160 mm range, where a square face is needed before a fusion socket or a mechanical coupler.
  • Industrial aluminium and copper tube — busbar cooling, compressed air, process lines.
  • Fabrication shops — where the same tool has to cover several materials and there is no room for three dedicated cutters.
It is a low-unit-volume line for most distributors, and that is precisely why it is worth carrying: the customer who needs it is already on site with the pipe cut short, and the alternative is a hacksaw and a file.

Cut, deburr, then join

A wheel cutter leaves an internal burr on any material. On a 168 mm plastic pipe going into a fusion socket, the burr prevents the pipe seating fully, and a partially seated weld fails on the pressure test. On large copper going into a brazed or mechanical joint, the burr holds the fitting off-centre.
Budget the reamer with the cutter. Our copper tube range covers internal and external deburring for tube ends, and the same logic runs through the smaller sizes: the TB365 bender set and the 45-degree flaring tools all assume a square, burr-free end as the starting point.

Packing and shipping

This tool is heavy, so it does not go into a retail blister. It ships bulk in a master carton, with the carton quantity and gross weight confirmed on the quotation. For a distributor that means the item is ordered in carton multiples and is normally consolidated with other copper-tool lines rather than shipped alone — one container across the range is the usual pattern.
Private label is available on the body and the carton print. Because there is no retail blister, the carton becomes the branding surface, and we recommend printing at least the logo and the capacity range on it.

Frequently asked questions

Does it cut stainless steel?

The cutter is specified for copper, aluminium and plastic pipe. Stainless needs a different wheel and more force; tell us the material and wall thickness and we will say honestly whether this tool suits the job.

What is the largest pipe it will cut?

168 mm outside diameter, which is 6-5/8 in. The minimum is 100 mm, so it is not a substitute for a small cutter — it is the top of the range, not a universal tool.

Is a spare cutting wheel supplied?

Wheels are available as spare parts against an order. Tell us the tool and the part and we quote it with the cutter.

How is it packed?

Bulk in a master carton, without individual retail packaging. Carton quantity and gross weight are confirmed on the quotation because they affect freight.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Lower for the standard finish. Custom carton print and logo marking raise the MOQ, since the print run has to be justified. Ask for both options.

Can you supply a mixed container with other tube tools?

Yes. This cutter consolidates with flaring tools, benders, cutters and reamers without a packing conflict, which is the usual way a distributor builds a first order.
