Manufacturing & Factory | Torchmark Hand Tools
Inside the Torchmark factory in Ningbo, Zhejiang: stamping, CNC machining, threading, surface treatment, assembly and QC for HVAC and plumbing hand tools.
Inside the Torchmark Factory
Torchmark operates its manufacturing base in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China — one of the country's main hardware and tool manufacturing clusters. From here we design, produce and ship HVAC and plumbing hand tools to distributors and importers worldwide.
Manufacturing Process
Our typical flow covers the full chain from raw material to finished tool: material preparation, precision stamping and CNC machining, threading and forming, surface treatment, component assembly, and final inspection. Factory and workshop photos are available on request.
Capabilities
We run in-house tooling and fixture making, which lets us support custom shapes, private-label printing and small-to-medium production runs. Capacity and equipment details are available on request.
Why Ningbo
Ningbo gives us a mature supplier network for steel, forgings and surface treatment, plus efficient export logistics through Ningbo Port. This helps us keep lead times and quality stable for international buyers.
How to Evaluate a Hand-Tool Factory
A factory description is marketing; an audit is evidence. If you are qualifying a supplier for HVAC and plumbing hand tools, the useful questions concern which operations are actually in-house, how dimensions are held, and how a rejected part is prevented from rejoining the batch. Factory photos, process descriptions and audit documentation are available on request.
Which operations are in-house
Stamping, machining, threading, heat treatment, surface finishing, assembly and packaging each have different failure modes. A supplier that controls forming and threading in-house can usually answer dimensional questions faster than one that coordinates several subcontractors. Ask for the process flow with the outsourced steps identified.
How dimensions are held
For flaring tools the cone angle and clamp alignment matter; for drain cables the wire grade and winding tension; for rivet nut tools the mandrel thread and stroke. Ask what gauge or fixture checks each feature, how often the gauge itself is verified, and what a first-article record looks like.
How nonconforming parts are controlled
Look for a physical quarantine area, a tagged disposition record, and a rule that reworked parts are re-inspected at the same gate. This is the question that most reliably separates a documented system from a written one.
Factory Audit Checklist
A one-day audit cannot verify everything. These five areas give the highest information yield for mechanical hand tools.
Area | What to look at | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
Process flow | In-house vs outsourced map | No clear owner for a key step |
Tooling | Die/cone/wheel change log | Consumables replaced only after failure |
Metrology | Gauges with verification dates | Unlabelled or out-of-date gauges |
Traceability | Lot code to inspection record | Cartons with no lot identification |
Dispatch | Packing check against PO | Mixed SKUs in one unmarked carton |
Questions Buyers Ask Before Ordering
Can we arrange a virtual or in-person factory audit?
Both can be arranged with notice. Tell us which product families you want to see so the relevant line and records are available. Factory documentation is available on request.
What production capacity information do you publish?
We do not publish capacity, output or headcount figures. Provide your expected volumes and mix and we will confirm feasibility against the actual schedule for that order.
How are samples approved before production?
Agree a golden sample with measured dimensions, finish and packaging, then reference it in the purchase order. The sample approval checklist shows the fields we normally capture.
Can we supply our own drawings or tooling?
Custom specifications and OEM arrangements are handled through the OEM / ODM process. Tooling ownership, sample loops and commercial terms are agreed per project.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can we visit the factory?
Yes, by appointment. A virtual tour can also be arranged before a visit.
Do you make custom or private-label tools?
Yes. We support OEM, ODM and private-label with custom printing and packaging. See our OEM & ODM page.
What is your typical lead time?
Lead time depends on product and order size; tell us your SKU mix and we quote a firm date.
