What to Establish Before a Distribution Agreement

A distribution relationship fails more often on undefined expectations than on product. Before discussing price, align on territory, channel, range, service parts and the information each side needs to forecast. The points below are the ones worth putting in writing early.

Channel and territory

State whether the appointment covers retail, trade, online or industrial supply, and in which territories. The same SKU may need different packaging, barcodes and documentation for each channel. Overlapping appointments create price conflict long before they create volume.

Range and replenishment logic

Agree the opening assortment and how it expands. A coherent first order usually covers the fast-moving sizes plus the wear parts, rather than one of every variant. Range planning for wholesale buyers gives an example of that logic for drain tools.

Service parts and after-sales

Spare cables, mandrels, dies and cutter wheels determine whether an end user can keep using the tool. Decide who stocks them, how they are ordered, and what documentation supports a warranty claim. This is often the difference between a one-off order and a repeat program.

Questions Buyers Ask Before Ordering

What is the minimum order quantity?

MOQ depends on configuration, packaging and finish. It is available on request against a specific SKU list — we do not publish a single figure that would be wrong for most orders.

Can we carry an exclusive territory?

Territory arrangements are discussed case by case against the channel and volume plan. Share the market, channel and expected range first.

Do you support private label for distributors?

Yes, through the OEM / ODM process: artwork proof, packed sample approval and carton data are separate steps from the tool itself.

What marketing or technical material is available?

Specification sheets, size charts and application guides are linked from each product family; the application guide is a useful starting point for range planning.
